Blitz Targets Calgary Truckers
CALGARY, Alta. – The Calgary Police Service Truck Unit cracked down on non-compliant truckers recently in a city-wide blitz.
Officers from the RCMP, Alberta Transportation Inspection Services, Lethbridge Police Service, Alberta Environment, the City of Calgary and other agencies participated in the blitz.
A total of 545 commercial vehicles were inspected for compliance of mechanical condition, load securement, transportation of dangerous goods, weights, hours of service and other regulations.
Forty-four per cent of the vehicles passed in all areas while 28 per cent required minor repairs. Twenty-eight per cent required major repairs before being allowed to continue on their way.
In all, 155 violations were recorded during the surprise blitz.
