Dear Editor:

It appears that our beloved Canada Customs officers are knuckling down on truckers, and why not? Everyone else is. If you are entering Canada from the US by truck, make sure that your load has been cleared before you try to enter Canada.

Call your broker to make sure that you have the okay to cross, and that means more than just obtaining an entry number. Apparently, the entry number only means that the paperwork was submitted to Customs and does not mean that you are cleared to cross. I know, because I was turned around at the Ambassador Bridge and had to wait in line on the US side with all the trucks going stateside so I could report to the pre-processing center on Fort Street. Once I was given the okay there, I could cross the bridge into Canada. Bear in mind the cost of crossing that bridge three times.
