… but OTA has worries about IRP

TORONTO, Ont. – Fears about increases in registration fees for trucking companies have spurred the Ontario Trucking Association to call for a new official launch date for the implementation of the International Registration Plan (IRP) in the province.

It wants the launch moved from Nov. 1 to April 1, 2001. Most other provinces are not scheduled to join until next spring, meaning Ontario will have to maintain both the new IRP system and the old CAVR system until the old system disappears completely. The MTO estimates that the increased cost to carriers of maintaining the two systems for the five-month period would amount to approximately $75 per truck. n
