LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Truckload Carriers Association recently announced the winners of its annual National Fleet Safety Awards which honour North American trucking companies which have demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to safety. Three Canadian fleets took one of the top three spots in their divisions, with one carrier taking away the grand prize. The awards ceremony took place at TCA’s 69th Annual Convention at the Bellagio Resort in Las Vegas.

MacKinnon Transport of Guelph, Ont. claimed second prize in the 25 to 49.99 Million Miles category; Robert Transport of Boucherville, Que. placed first in the 50 to 99.99 Million Miles category; and Bison Transport of Winnipeg, Man. took top spot in the over 100 Million Miles category. Each of the three winners in each division had the lowest accident frequency ratios per million miles annually.

All division winners were also invited to compete for one of two grand prizes – one for carriers with a total annual mileage under 25 million miles, and the other for over 25 million miles. Canadian carriers once again showed their strength in safety as Bison Transport took home the grand prize for the second year in a row in the Over 25 Million Miles category.

“Winning the award is a remarkable achievement considering that Bison is a ‘medium-sized’ privately-owned carrier and we were up against the very best fleets in the industry, including much larger American truckload fleets in both the private and public sectors,” Bison officials said in a release. “It is an affirmation that the energy we put into our safety program is recognized as industry leading. Everyone in our organization has cause to be proud that your competitors and your peers view you as worthy of this recognition.”
