TORONTO, Ont. – ChevronTexaco has launched a new monthly awards program to recognize outstanding diesel technicians.
The ChevronTexaco Diesel Technician Award Program, launched at the annual Canadian Fleet Maintenance Seminar this May, will be presented for the first time July 11, 2003, at the ChevronTexaco Charity Golf Tournament at Lionhead Golf and Country Club, by none other than “The Driver of the Century” Mario Andretti.
In addition to the Diesel Technician Award, the winner will receive a “Diesel Technician of the Month” jacket.
The program is designed to send a positive message to new and prospective technicians, develop career growth, self-esteem and well-being, and continually reward a job well done.
The Automotive Transportation Service Superintendents’ Association (ATSSA) endorses the award program and will act as a governing body to sanction and administer it for Canada.
The ATSSA has formed a judging committee to receive applications and make a selection on a monthly basis. The ATSSA will also provide selection criteria and recommendations for an approved training program that can be put in place by award winners.
Candidates must meet the following standards to be considered:
They must have received two nominations (one from their company management and the second from a co-worker or customer);
They must be recognized by management, co-workers and/or customers for their strong technical skills;
They must be known to go beyond the call of duty to serve customers;
They must set a good example for others;
They must proactively work to increase their knowledge and performance;
They must be team players.
The employer of a “Diesel Technician of the Month,” will receive $800 towards trade school training for either veteran or newly-hired employees. There will be no restrictions on the employer’s school of choice, as long as the school is endorsed by the ATSSA.
As part of the award program, a grand winner will also be rewarded each year.
The winner will be selected from among the 12 previous monthly winners and will be recognized at the Canadian Fleet Maintenance Seminar (CFMS) as the “Canadian Diesel Technician of the Year.” The annual winner will be awarded a $2,000 educational stipend.
