CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Canadian National has announced the launch of four new domestic intermodal trains that the company says will make the railway more competitive with over-the-road truckers.

The announcement was made as part of the annual conference of New England governors and Eastern Canadian premiers in Halifax.

The new freight train will have a late evening cutoff in Toronto, with trailers and containers in Moncton, N.B. for pickup at 10:30 p.m. the next day, six hours earlier than the previous schedule. The new service will see freight move 1,600 kilometres in 24 hours, which CN says is a truck-competitive operation. n
