MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – The Ontario Safety League (OSL) gave due recognition to four contributors to road safety during its 89th annual general meeting Apr. 24.

This year the Airbrake Endorsement Steering Committee was recognized for its work in revising and raising the standards of Ontario’s airbrake endorsement course.

The Beer Store was credited for improving the education of its drivers and fleet managers by investing in driver assessment/improvement and trip inspection and also developing shifting and backing programs.

The league also doled out its Distinguished Service Award, acknowledging contributions to the cause of safety or the work of the OSL. Assistant deputy transport minister Saad Rafi was identified for his work in road safety; he was instrumental in projects including the Aggressive Driving Web Conference.

Toronto Police Service’s Constable Arthur Francis was also honored for his contributions. Francis was the founder and driving force behind the Toronto Safe and Sober Driving Coalition.
