MONTREAL, Que. – Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) has sold a low-density spur line in northern New Brunswick to its main competitor, Canadian National (CN).

The 12.6-km line known as the Edmunston spur, runs between Grand Falls and Cyr Junction, near St. Leonard, N.B.

Financial details of the sale were not released.

Keith Heller, vice-president of CN’s Eastern Canada division, says acquiring the Edmunston spur will help CN maintain rail service to McCain Foods Ltd., which is an important customer.
