MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) holders now have the opportunity to review whether collisions on Ontario roadways were preventable or non-preventable.

Thanks to a newly established independent review panel, a company can protect its CVOR status against unjust rulings.

The creation of the review panel is a victory for the Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) because it is recognized that some collisions are worthy of closer scrutiny.

It is only fair that CVOR holders be provided with an opportunity to have the collision reviewed by a neutral, third-party.

The development of this review panel was led by the OTA and developed with the full co-operation and support of the Ontario Provincial Police, Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and Transportation Health and Safety Association of Ontario (THSAO).

The review process is completely confidential and is carried out by a panel operated under the auspices of the THSAO, a neutral, third-party with expertise in the collision review process.

THSAO is one of Ontario’s 14 sector specific safe workplace associations and delivers workplace health and safety training and education, including collision preventability programs.

The panel will only review requests:

that deal with the preventability of a collision;

where charges were not laid;

involving reportable collisions that occurred in Ontario;

within three-months of the collision appearing on the CVOR.

No personal appearances before the panel are required as the review is of administrative reports which must be submitted by the appellant.

To request a review, appellants must submit comprehensive details of the collision and supporting documentation to THSAO along with a non-refundable cheque for $250.

The findings of the review panel are final and there are no further appeals. The appellant will be notified of the outcome of the collision review by MTO.
