DETROIT, Mich. – Detroit Diesel will supply 2.5 L, 16-valve diesel engines for a Ford vehicle sold outside the U.S., the companies have announced.

The direct-injected, common rail powerplants will be made available to Ford in 2001, while further details will be made available later this year.

The four-cylinder, direct injected, 2.5L diesel engine is equipped with electronically controlled common rail fuel injection. All models are turbocharged and intercooled, with features such as Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and balance shafts for reduced vibration. n
