Distance ed. coming to O/Os, dispatchers

OTTAWA, Ont. – Over the next 18 months, the Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council (CTHRC) will be developing two new training programs aimed at the individuals who play a large part in keeping the trucking industry moving: owner/operators and dispatchers.

The key is these classes will be available and accessible, 24 hours a day, seven days a week – where ever and whenever the student has time.

For O/Os, the CTHRC already offers a Business Skills course. However, the group says it has become evident that a classroom setting, in its opinion, is not an ideal situation for many individuals.

The new course will allow O/Os to bone up on their business skills via two modules delivered on CD-ROM and over the Internet.

Dispatchers, on the other hand, will be able to gain some professional development specifically geared to their needs. Again this two-module program is available through multiple electronic mediums.

The CTHRC expects the first pilot versions of these modules, developed under the chairmanship of Alberta’s Lane Kranenburg, to be available by either late spring or early summer of this year. n
