Driver recovers after stabbing at Calgary truck stop

CALGARY, Alta. – Long-haul trucker Rick Blancher, 36, has recovered but has yet to get back behind the wheel after being stabbed 11 times at a Calgary truck stop Mar. 15.

Blancher managed to call police on his cell phone from the Road King laundromat after being attacked in his truck.

A short time later, police arrested and charged hitchhiker Timothy Michael Hockin, 26, of Red Deer, Alta., with one count of assault with a weapon and one count of aggravated assault. Investigators recovered a knife believed to be the weapon in the truck’s cab. n
