Drivers need government help

Dear Editor,

I am a trucker’s wife and advocate for truckers’ rights. I have written to various transport ministries regarding (a number of issues involving) unscrupulous companies out here.

But if a driver notifies the Ministry of Transportation – especially about being over hours – enforcement officers tell him that he will be fined. If the driver mentions the name and address of the company, the enforcement officers say that if they decide to audit the company, (a rare situation), and find the driver’s illegal log, the driver will be fined.

What is a driver to do?

If a driver refuses anything, for whatever reason, for doing his job, the company will find someone else to do it.

We need to write transport ministries about our concerns. Maybe, just maybe, we will make the difference and protect our spouses in trucks and on the highways.
