Employment in the Canadian for-hire carrier sector

That’s the number of people employed in the Canadian for-hire carrier sector, according to the latest count provided by Transport Canada. The total represents a 15% increase from the sector’s workforce in 2001, however it’s likely the total will decline due to layoffs and closures during the tough financial climate carriers are facing this year. The total does not include private carriers, which actually outnumber for-hire fleets in Canada, or the fast-growing courier sector.
