Enthusiastic driver looking for work

Dear Editor,

As a new graduate of one of the truck driving schools in Montreal, I am faced with a fact that it is nearly impossible to get hired as a Class 1 (AZ) driver without experience.

It doesn’t even matter if it is long distance or a local haul that I applied for, I got the same response from all the companies: that it is their policy to only hire drivers that have at least two years of experience. My question is: Do a lot of new drivers get the same answer throughout Canada or is it the province that I live in?

I mean, this is really discouraging.

How is someone supposed to get any experience anywhere, before they even would be considered?

After spending $3,000 on the course and being certain I would get employed, I am sincerely disappointed in the way the trucking companies in Quebec handle their recruitment process.

Am I the only one or are new drivers throughout Canada facing the same difficulties?
