OTTAWA, Ont. – Federal Transport Minister, Lawrence Cannon, has assured the motoring public that all federal bridges have been inspected and are safe to traverse.

The inspections came on the heels of a recent overpass collapse in Quebec, which killed five people.

“Canada’s new government is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Canadians,” said Cannon. We took immediate action to ensure that all federal bridges are safe and secure and that inspections are done on a regular basis.”

Federal bridges are inspected at least once every three years. Visual inspections occur annually and more detailed inspections take place more regularly, depending on the size of the bridge, the complexity of the infrastructure and the traffic volume.
