Fergus Truck Show donates to local groups

FERGUS, Ont. – The directors of the Fergus Truck Show recently presented cheques totaling almost $35,000 to 25 area groups who assisted with last year’s 20th anniversary event, bringing the total raised by the event for community groups and Fergus Recreation to more than $460,000.

The groups assisting had a total of 829 volunteers who worked 4,501 hours prior to, at, or following the show.

In addition, there were hundreds of individual non-group volunteers working during the weekend event. According to show organizers, the continued growth and success of the event is the result of the dedication and support of so very many people and companies.

Fergus board president, Wayne Billings said he is impressed with the show’s ability to continuously break records.

He listed attendance for the 2005 event at 54,203, with the ‘Show & Shine’ and truck pull bringing in 630 and 183 entrants respectively.

Billings also announced that the board would be donating an extra 50 cents per hour to all groups assisting at the show. The groups, hours and dollars distributed are as follows: Alma Optimist (173 hours for $1,297.50), Arthur Optimist (73 hours for $547.50), Belwood Lions Club (146 hours for $1,095.00), Bethel Youth Group (94 hours for $705.00), CW Rotary (275 hours for $2,062.50), CWDHS Mission (149 hours for $1,117.50), Centre Wellington In-Line Hockey (402 hours for $3,015.00), Chamber of Commerce (20 hours for $150.00), Community Resource Centre (114 hours for $855.00), Country Wings (261 hours for $1,957.00), DSC Sports (178 hours for $1,335.00), Elora Mohawks (88 hours for $660.00), Fergus Boy Scouts (71 hours for $532.50), Fergus Devils Jr. C Hockey (38 hours for $285.00), Fergus Highland Rugby (411 hours for $3,082.50), Fergus Lions Club (40 hours for $300.00), Fergus Tennis Club (133 hours for $997.50), Grand Harmony Chorus (241 hours for $1,807.50), Melville United Church (143 hours for $1,072.50), Men for Misions (584 hours for $4,380.00), Palmerston Rookies (86 hours for $645.00), Royal City Ambassadors (367 hours for $2,752.50), Tri City Football (341 hours for $2,557.50), St. John Ambulance (flat rate $475.00 for “on duty service”) and St. Joseph Parish (73 hours for $547.50).

The 21st annual Fergus Truck Show will be held July 21-23.

More than $125 million worth of equipment is expected to be displayed and about 550 trucks will participate in Show & Shine and in the truck pulls. “Exhibitor Avenues” will feature over 240 exhibitors/vendors with something for everyone.
