TORONTO, Ont. – Three trucking companies were among the list of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies award, unveiled in Toronto recently. Established in 1993, Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies is one of the country’s business awards program, recognizing excellence in Canadian-owned and managed companies with revenues over $10 million.

Day and Ross, of Hartland, N.B.; MacKinnon Transport, of Guelph, Ont.; and Gallop Logistics, of Toronto all made the cut, aligning themselves with the country’s top managed companies in a variety of industries.

“Good businesses do everything right to make a profit; however, Best Managed companies profit as a consequence of doing all the right things. They can’t envisage doing it any other way – that’s the key differentiator,” commented John Hughes, national leader of the Best Managed program and Deloitte Partner.

Overall, this year’s winners cited developing unique products or services as their key competitive advantage at 26 per cent, followed by strong leadership at 20 per cent, and employee innovation at 14 per cent. Maintaining a product or service edge over competitors was marked as the key challenge at 26 per cent, followed by maintaining good customer relationships as they continue to grow at 18 per cent.

Recently, other best-managed Canadian transportation companies were acknowledged as inductees to the Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies Platinum Club.

Receiving the honour were: Bison Transport; MSM Transportation; Wheels Group; Quick X Transportation; and the Yanke Group of Companies. Industry supplier Fountain Tire also made the list of 31 companies.

In order to qualify for the elite membership, companies had to maintain their status as one of Canada’s 50 best-managed companies for at least six consecutive years.
