Fond memories of the Rodeo

Dear Editor,

I would like to take a moment to thank you for interesting articles printed in the September 2000 issue of Truck News. The best was the coverage of Rodeo du Camion in Notre-Dame-du-Nord, Que.

My husband and I had the opportunity to see this event twice. The first time was in its early years, when they only raced and had a show and shine and the draw for the rigs. A few years later, we camped on school property and the schools were opened for visitors to use the showers, etc. The streets were then blocked off by white picket fences and the flea market was set up. The show and shine area was full.

Since we did not speak French, we could not understand all the songs at the big dance, but the people were eager to help out when we couldn’t relate to some of the conversations. And the town has dressed up a little more each year.

It was nice to read how they included a church service since it’s nice to know “God’s blessing” is on a trucker trying to make a living for himself and his family.

This event has to be seen to really appreciate the show put on by the truckers and their rigs.
