Fredericton Road to be overhauled

SALISBURY, N.B. – Village council decided to nominate Fredericton Road for the new municipal designated highway grant program.

The section of Route 112, running from Main Street west to Highway 2, will be the village’s priority for an overhaul.

Councillors met with Petitcodiac MLA Wally Stiles to discuss the provincial program, which will pay for the upgrade of a designated provincial road that will then be turned over to the municipality to maintain. Each municipality gets to select the road they want renovated.

Councillors also agreed that a sidewalk should be constructed at the village’s expense while the road is being rebuilt, and there would be a considerable savings if the two projects were synchronized.

Although council was in agreement, the official decision was deferred until next meeting so a detailed plan could be drawn up.
