PORTLAND, Ore. – Freightliner’s Business Class M2 line of medium-duty trucks can now be paired with a new 2004 Mercedes-Benz MBE926 7.2 liter engine.

The new engine offers excellent fuel economy and durability at a lower operating cost, the company says. The engine has been available as of mid-June.

“This engine rounds out the availability of the highly-successful Mercedes-Benz MBE900 series of engines for Freightliner Trucks,” said Mark Lampert, senior vice-president, sales and marketing, Freightliner Trucks.

The six-cylinder MBE926 is available in horsepower ratings of 250-330 with a torque range from 800-1,000 lb. ft. The engine delivers high torque at a low RPM increasing performance with smoother shifts, better driveability and better performance on hills and in stop-and-go traffic, Freightliner says.

The engine also includes a quiet exhaust brake providing more braking horsepower for improved vehicle control and less wear of the service brakes.

The new engine uses Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) to meet the 2004 EPA emissions standards.

“The MBE926 7.2-liter engine is another great option for our medium-duty truck operators who want power and performance in a lightweight package,” Lampert added.
