Freightliner sets sun on Solar Series

PORTLAND, Ore. – Freightliner LLC has canceled a deal to market the Class 7 Solar Series product line in North America, only a day after it announced the completion of its acquisition of Western Star.

The end to the agreement comes as little surprise, given Freightliner’s extensive line-up of Business Class medium-duty trucks, and the new Acterra line being offered with Sterling nameplates.

The Mexican-based Dina had supplied Western Star with about 600 Solar Series trucks.

Freightliner noted in a press release that a marketing alliance with a third party doesn’t fit well with its long-range strategic plans. n
