Glasvan Great Dane To Showcase Hybrid Shunt Truck

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. –Glasvan Great Dane is heralding the arrival of what it claims to be Canada’s first diesel-electric hybrid shunt truck with an open house Aug. 25.

The Capacity PHETT (Pluggable Hybrid Electric Terminal Truck) offers a 60% fuel savings compared to traditional diesel-powered shunt trucks, the company claims. That represents potential annual fuel savings of 12,000 litres of diesel per year in many operations.

It’s also more environmentally-friendly, since in battery mode the shunt truck produces no exhaust or noise emissions, according to the company. When in diesel mode, the hybrid shunt truck offers a 30% noise reduction when compared to a traditional yard tractor.

The battery system is charged using a 220-volt source and regenerative braking.
