GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. – Greatwest Kenworth has opened a new store in Grande Prairie at the rapidly-expanding “four mile corner” just north of the city.

The new location is at 7202 98th St. in Clairmont, Alta. It’s a 33,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art dealership featuring an indoor showroom for Class 7 and 8 trucks. There’s also a spacious and bright parts area that features an attractive parts display as well as plenty of stock.

The new dealership also features a comfortable customer lounge with plenty of reading material, a television set and complimentary coffee.

The service shop is 18,000 sq. ft. and is equipped with the latest diagnostic equipment including a vehicle inspection station. The station consists of a machine that diagnoses the front-end, suspension and braking capabilities of a truck in less than half the time it would take to do so manually.

There are 12 spacious service bays in the shop including a wash bay and a drive-through bay. The new dealership also has two new five-tonne Kenworth T300 parts trucks that are available to service the area’s customers.

“We are pleased to invest in a new store in the Grande Prairie area. It is a vibrant and busy area that has potential for continued growth,” said Greatwest Kenworth president Paul Storwick.

About 95 per cent of the trucks sold at the Grande Prairie location are vocational trucks, many of which are spec’d for oilfield applications, Danny Shannon, Greatwest Kenworth’s medium-duty product manager, told Truck West. The new digs were necessary to keep up with increased demand for these trucks as the Northern Alberta oilpatch continues to bustle with activity.

“We were outgrowing the site we had before,” Shannon said. “We really felt that the area we relocated to (the four mile corner) is going to be a real hub of activity in the Grande Prairie area so we thought that was the best location and it was just time to step it up a notch.”

The grand opening took place Oct. 7 and was well attended by local media and dignitaries, as well as some of the PACCAR big wigs who flew in from Seattle for the event. The company is planning on hosting an open house for customers in the spring.

Greatwest Kenworth has been in business for 30 years and employs 200 people in Alberta. About 30 of them work at the Grande Prairie facility.
