Grit – a poem

The storm is coming fast,

then Bam!

The driver hits it. Warning? None.

Shock, surprise.

The darkness falls,

the road is gone,

His chest is cramped,

hard heart-attack.

He can’t get back

To hold the long-haul load.

This driver is fierce and powerful,

This driver is bold.

He downshifts hard,

the pistons pull.

The eighteen wheels grab

distant road.

Courageous, fearless, all alone

This man, invincible, heads home.
