LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Haldex has introduced a new trailer brake control valve that complies with FMVSS-121 spring brake control function requirements.

The new valve is mounted on the trailer reservoir and responds to a signal from the trailer supply line to charge the tank and to control the spring brake section of double diaphragm spring brakes to provide parking and emergency braking, the company announced. Two versions of the valve are available: a service brake priority application that requires the tank to be filled prior to the spring brakes being released; and a spring brake priority version that does not require the tank to be filled.

Also new to Haldex is a self-setting automatic brake adjuster for truck and trailer applications. Haldex officials said the new brake adjuster is easy to install and delivers improved performance, extended service life and reduce inventory costs. The new design helps eliminate installation errors, Haldex officials said. A self-setting adjuster establishes its own reference point when the control arm sets itself to any angle within a range of permissible control arm positions allowed with current adjusters, the company said. A clearance-sensing design maintains a constant distance from the brake drum. The lining-to-drum clearance is maintained, lowering the risk of over-adjustment during prolonged braking.

At the Mid-America Trucking Show, Haldex also unveiled a new ABS retrofit kit for Wabash trailers. The all-inclusive ABS kit replaces the Wabash MBS1 and MBS1P ABS systems and replaces the MBS2 system when used in conjunction with an MBS2 in-axle sensing upgrade kit, the company announced. Haldex said its MBS2 hardware kit upgrades in-axle sensing to conventional wheel speed sensing. Included in the kit are: new sensors and clips; new fittings and fasteners; required air line tubing; ABS labels; detailed instructions; and other installation components.

Haldex has introduced a new PR height control valve the company said boasts an industry leading dead zone of 3 degrees to precisely control suspension ride height for any application. It’s compatible with cab, front and rear suspensions, officials said. The new height control valve is ideal for both OEM and aftermarket installations, the company said.

On display at the Mid-America Trucking Show was a new ModulX DB22LT air disc brake from Haldex. The disc brake features a new lightweight caliper, saving about 18 lbs per brake over previous ModulX designs. The new version is also less sensitive to speed and temperature variations experienced in demanding grade or braking applications, the company announced. The new air disc brake is available in 19.5-inch and 22.5-inch configurations as well as a medium-duty 17.5-inch measurement.

On the spring brake side, Haldex announced its fully-sealed Life Seal spring brake reduces cost of ownership by reducing power spring fractures – a major cause of spring brake failures. The sealed design uses a zinc-plated steel chamber to prevent water and contaminants from entering the system and weakening the spring. The spring is completely protected, Haldex officials pointed out, thanks to the absence of vent holes, external breather tubes and filters.

Haldex also introduced a new multiple treatment cartridge for its air dryers. The MTC+ features a coalescing filter which results in a 60% improvement in hydrocarbon removal, the company announced. Those hydrocarbons, if not removed, can degrade seals and corrode valves downstream from the air dryer.
