Hwy. 401 near London to be resurfaced (September 01, 2006)

LONDON, Ont. – Hwy. 401 near London is getting some upgrades which should benefit the 60,000 drivers who drive the stretch each day.

“An average of 60,000 vehicles use this busy section of Highway 401 everyday, of which 35% are commercial vehicles,” said Ontario Transport Minister, Donna Cansfield. “This is just one of many highway repair projects our government is investing in this summer as part of our five-year, $3.4 billion Southern Ontario Highways Program to help move people and goods faster, create jobs and build a stronger economy.”

The improvements include resurfacing the highway for 10 kms from Highbury Ave. to Dorchester Road near London. Construction is slated to begin soon with work wrapping up by September.

The Ministry says work will take place in the evening to minimize disruptions to traffic and one lane will remain open at all times.

“This investment is great news for our area,” said MPP for Elgin-Middlesex-London, Steve Peters. “Quick, reliable and safe transportation is vital to our economic success and quality of life.”
