TORONTO, Ont. – Hwy. 407 toll route administrators and representatives of its customers announced the settlement of a class action lawsuit related to the company’s $30 late payment fee.
As part of the settlement, up to 840,000 customers who were charged the fee will get a $6 credit on their accounts.
As well, anyone who was charged the late payment fee as a result of an administrative or system error is eligible for a credit of the entire $30.
Customers who wish to make a claim for the $6 credit or $30 refund must complete and return a coupon to be published in a number of Ontario-based newspapers over the next few weeks.
The coupon will also be available online at www.407etr.com.
Effective Apr. 21, the late payment fee was replaced with new fees directly tied to the collection costs the company incurs when a customer has not paid a bill for at least three months.
