OTTAWA, Ont. – The Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council and Natural Resources Canada have announced the 10 winners of the third annual Idle-Free Campaign draw.

The 10 winners are: Paul Foley, Sysco from Sydney, N.S.; Jean McCormick, Jasrotia Enterprises from Miramichi, N.B.; Denis Comtois, from Joliette, Que.; Murray Manuliak, Bison Transport from Brandon, Man.; Jill Babiarz, Babiarz Trucking from Regina, Sask.; Daryl Hernblad from Cranbrook, B.C.; Deborah Harper, Trans Freight McNamara from Carleton Place, Ontario; Christian Joanette from Monkland, Ont.; B.S. Amandson, Night Runner Transport Ltd., from Amisk, Alta.; and Robert Blades, Wildcatz Enterprises from Leslieville, Alta.

The Idle-Free campaign, spearheaded by the FleetSmart division of NRCan with support from the CTHRC, encourages truck drivers to shut down their truck engines at truck stops and help with Canada’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

It is estimated that idling trucks emit about 3,080 to 7,700 tonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per truck stop per year. With one tonne of GHG filling up the volume of an ordinary two-storey house, any measures to reduce emissions would have a positive impact on Canada’s environment.

The winners of this year’s Idle-Free Campaign will receive a copy of the CTHRC’s owner/operator business skills CD-ROM. Written for owner/operators, by owner/operators, this CD course teaches basic business skills and helps the user to develop practical tools to help them in their business.

Upon completion of this course, the individuals are registered in a national database and receive a certificate of completion from the CTHRC.
