CHICAGO, Ill. – International plans to layoff some 315 employees at an Indianapolis engine plant on Sept. 27 as it switches to a new 6.0-liter diesel engine for Ford.

The Illinois-based company has also announced it will cut as many as 2,000 jobs at its plants in Indianapolis and Springfield, Ohio.

Also rumored to be on the chopping block is a medium-duty truck line in Springfield and a truck-body plant in the same city.

According to the Bloomberg News Service, the company may also idle as many as 500 workers on Nov. 1, at the Chatham, Ont. plant, due to low demand in the heavy-duty side of the business. n
