Invest more in people: CTHRC

TORONTO, Ont. – Investment in technology has allowed the trucking industry to firmly plant one foot in the 21st century, but its archaic human resources practices means the other foot is stuck back in the 1970s, said Linda Gauthier of the Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council at Truck World 2000.

“We invest tons of money in equipment. But what do we do with our own people? As little as possible. We’re not investing in our workforce and that’s our most valuable asset,” Gauthier said. The media conference was held to discuss the tools the council has developed for assessing drivers and dispatchers. n
