CAMBRIDGE, Ont. – Racing legend Mario Andretti recently visited Canada to meet with truckers, thanks to Chevron and some of its local business partners.

On Aug. 17 Andretti spent the day with PartSource and then Buy-Rite Truck Parts in Mississauaga where he entertained fans, signed autographs and had his picture taken with customers. The following day he was at Cambridge Mack where he once again gracefully signed autographs and shook hands with race fans and truck owners.

“Chevron has just established a long-term supply agreement with Cambridge Mack and their group of dealers and part of our partnership was to bring some value-added items – in this case, Mario Andretti – to the business,” explained Doran Hart, account manager, commercial and automotive with Chevron. “We wanted to introduce ourselves as the brand that’s being used within the service departments of all their businesses and let them know that if you bring your rig in here you’re going to be filled with Chevron Delo 400.”

Chevron was already the factory fill for Mack and Volvo and now with the long-term agreement inked with the Cambridge Mack family of dealerships, Hart said Chevron has broadened its reach.

Chevron has enjoyed a lengthy relationship with the legendary racer, whose cars were sponsored by Texaco for many years. Now in retirement, Andretti has maintained his relationship with the company.

Hart said Chevron tries to bring Andretti to Canada at least once a year and he’s always a hit with the fans.

“He’s always the consummate professional and gentleman,” Hart said. “Every place we’ve gone the crowds have been good. He really is a huge asset for our organization.”

Andretti is the only race car driver to ever win the Formula 1 championship, Indy 500 and Daytona 500.

He is a four-time Champ Car national champion and the only driver to be named Driver of the Year in three different decades.

Many insist Andretti is the greatest race car driver of all time.
