Mats: Bendix delivers on cleaner brake air

Mid-America Trucking Show attendees had the opportunity to see Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems’ two newest air dryer line products – the AD-IS, and the PuraGuard DL.

The AD-IS (launched earlier this year) is a modular air dryer that reduces system weight, simplifies maintenance and installation.

“We combined the AD-9 and the AD-IP to come out with the AD-IS,” explains Bendix product line director, Russell Brax. “The results are lower installation costs for the OEM.”

It incorporates four pressure protection valves in the air dryer module. This configuration facilitates direct plumbing and direct charging from the vehicle accessories from the air dryer, improving performance and minimizing the number of potential leak points.

The AD-IS has a self-contained purge volume making it possible for the air system reservoirs to maintain constant pressure during the purge cycle while remaining fully dedicated to air system operations.

This product is currently being introduced into the market and is a standard offering on Freightliner and will be standard on all Peterbilt trucks and tractors.

The PuraGuard DL is an air-filtering device, which captures up to 70 per cent of oil and carbon from a heavy vehicle air system.

Installed between the air compressor and the air dryer, the PuraGuard DL traps carbon particles, liquid oil and aerosols using a microglass fiber filter.

Aerosols are combined into larger droplets easily captured in the dryer’s filter, extending the air cartridge’s life by as much as three times.

PuraGuard protects all critical air system components downstream of the compressor while it helps reduce air brake system maintenance and increase potential vehicle uptime.

Maintenance is simple with an oil filter change once per year for most applications. PuraGuard features a spin-on filter cartridge and a built-in safety relief valve that sounds an audible signal in the event a cartridge becomes clogged.

PuraGuard DL is ideal for carriers in high-use braking/high compressor duty-cycle vocations multiple axle vehicles, dump trucks and refuse haulers.
