Mats: Freightliner set to ramp Coronado production

Since its fall of 2000 introduction not a lot has happened with Freightliner’s new flagship owner/op tractor, the Coronado – but that should change starting in June.

The Portland, Ore.-based company says the rig will be in production by the start of this summer, despite a market still relatively depressed.

“We announced this truck at the Great American Truck Show and then the bottom fell out of the market,” says Mark Lampert in explaining the delay. As well, the company still has its popular Classic and Classic XL rigs rolling off production lines – a fact that seems to fly in the face of its new branding strategy to leave the owner/op market to corporate cousin Western Star.
