Meeting Driver Needs

Drivers scored carriers best in making sure that equipment is safe, a statistic that indicates the message about the necessity to put safe iron on the road is sinking through. Unfortunately less than 45 per cent of the drivers surveyed indicated that their carriers are also providing adequate safety training, a statistic that has remained relatively unchanged over the four years the survey has been conducted. About a quarter of them said their carriers were providing adequate training in new technologies. Slightly more than half of the drivers queried said their carriers are giving them enough time to complete their trips and a similar amount said their carriers were getting them home when promised. On the subject of pay, just 16.8 per cent of the drivers surveyed felt their carriers were providing a competitive income.
