CHATHAM, Ont. – Another 22 Ontario Provincial Police officers will soon be assigned to a stretch of Hwy. 401 between London and Windsor that has become known as Carnage Alley.

There have been 33 deaths on the highway in the last 13 months. It was also the site of one of Canada’s largest traffic accidents, which last September involved 82 vehicles. Eight people were killed in that crash.

Cabinet approval has been granted for the funding that will pay for the extra officers.

Ontario Transportation Minister David Turnbull promised to enhance enforcement after the Windsor crash. n
