WINNIPEG, Man. – The Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA) reached out to the leaders of tomorrow, handing out seven scholarships to employees of MTA member companies or their dependants.

Three of the scholarships were academic awards and four were apprenticeship awards. The academic scholarships are awarded to the employees of MTA members, or their dependants who have the highest overall average in 4 – 40S subjects. The apprenticeship scholarships are awarded to the top level 1 and level 2 graduates in the Transport Truck Mechanic and Transport Trailer Mechanic Apprenticeship Programs, employed by an MTA member company.

“We are a people industry – in fact in Manitoba over 33,000 people are directly and indirectly employed in trucking. And if we consider the number of dependants involved, there are many thousands more who depend on trucking for their livelihood,” said Clayton Gording, president of the MTA.

The recipients of the Academic Award are: Megan Smith, Winnipeg – The Data Group of Companies; Lorenne de Rocquigny, St Claude – L & J Bulk Milk Transport; and Kelly Klassen, Steinbach – Loewen Windows.

The recipients of the Transport Truck Mechanic Apprentice Awards are: Ernst Bollenbach, Winnipeg – Calmont Truck Rentals & Leasing; Christopher Ingram, Winnipeg – Beaver Truck Centre.

The recipients of the Transport Trailer Mechanic Apprentice Award are: Aroldo Alecio, Winnipeg – Bison Transport; and Jeffrey Mills, Winnipeg – Oak Point Service.
