N.B. roads deteriorating

MONCTON N.B. – Deteriorating roadside banks are creating an unsafe highway between Riverview and Hopewell Cape.

The Department of Transportation is taking measures to fix up Hwy. 114 and keep drivers safe. Citizens are worried that as banks erode and crumble away the roads will deteriorate to the point of collapsing. Guardrails surrounding the area have already come loose for lack of footing, and residents are worried that heavy vehicles or a vehicle sliding on icy roads this winter will cause the road to cave in.

For the long-term, she says, the department will take soil samples before the snow falls, to determine what makes up the ground beneath the roadway. n
