N.B. truckers protest low aggregate weight limits

FREDERICTON, N.B. – Gravel haulers angered by New Brunswick’s weight restrictions partially blocked a stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway near Frederiction in mid-November.

The protesting truckers, about 30 in total, parked their vehicles and blocked transport trucks, yet allowed other traffic to pass.

One protesting driver, Dave Brown, told the press that the province’s weight restrictions prevent heavy trucks from using secondary roads, and the main roads cost more to use.

The gravel is being hauled to the new highway being built between Fredericton and Moncton. n
