CORNER BROOK, Nfld. – A deal for a new private cargo ferry service between Corner Brook, Nfld. and Belledune, N.B. should be complete any day now.

Rigel Shipping Canada and the Port of Corner Brook have been working on the agreement that hinges on the divestiture of the port from Transport Canada.

Rigel has already been talking to the Belledune Port Authority in order to reach a preliminary deal with the Port of Corner Brook and select a site for the service.

The new service should accommodate between 100 and 120 tractor-trailers and will likely make three weekly trips across the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

The ferry is expected to set sail this summer.
