Freightliner LLC is deploying Managed Dealer Inventory (MDI), a new supply chain management tool, to help dealers provide greater parts availability for customers. The new parts system will roll-out to Canadian dealers in January.

PeopleNet Communications recently unveiled PACOS automated driver messaging and exception-based dispatcher reporting. According to PeopleNet, automated messaging allows a carrier to more efficiently manage its business processes. The process requires little or no involvement from the driver. It works by assigning geo fences around a particular landmark, and when a truck crosses this geo fence, the device in the truck will generate an automated message to dispatch or to any e-mail address that has been entered into the system. Exception-based reporting for dispatchers streamlines the amount of information a dispatcher must sift through. This program will notify the dispatcher only when there is an exception such as when a truck is not on schedule or is detained at a stop. These two services were designed with four business principles in mind, let drivers drive, empower dispatchers through knowledge rather than data, increase supply chain visibility and enhance homeland security and transportation security.
