ST. JOHN’S, Nfld. – Newfoundland ushered in a Progressive Conservative government in record-breaking fashion during its recent election.

Incumbent Premier Danny Williams won in a landslide election with about 70% of Newfoundland voters favouring his Tory party. The Tories gained nine new districts and now control 43 seats in a 48-seat House.

The election win was the most lopsided in the province’s history. Williams warned he would be taking on the federal government on key issues such as equalization payments.
