Ontario motor carriers wanted

TORONTO, Ont. – Transport Canada is looking for carriers that make frequent trips across the Ambassador Bridge, and who currently make use of GPS or Satellite-based tracking systems to participate in a study to estimate border-crossing times at the Ambassador Bridge connecting Windsor and Detroit.

The aim of the study is to collect data to assist in improving the flow of traffic across the border.

This new source of information will provide a window on border crossing times and crossing time variability. The GPS/ Satellite-based data will also allow the estimation of border crossing times by date, time of day, and day of week.

“It will improve the ability of federal, provincial and state departments to effectively manage border issues and make intelligent infrastructure decisions, as well as give participating carriers access to extra border crossing data on their own fleet activities at no cost to them,” Transport Canada says. It adds it will take all the necessary precautions to protect the commercially sensitive data provided by the carriers.

For more information, or to become a study participant, please contact OTA’s Geoff Wood at 416-249-7401 ext. 248 or gwood@ontruck.org.
