Reader of the month: Brian McDonald
“Hi! My name is Brian McDonald and I’m a company driver with Thomson Terminals Ltd. Both Thomson and I are based in Toronto, Ont. I’m married with two grown-up children (who ought to be at home right now, checking out the new boat). I haul a lot of different things for Thomson with my Peterbilt, including commodities like groceries and wine. I’ve been with Thomson for 16 years, but I’ve driven a truck all my working life (over 30 years).
“When I’m waiting for a load, I like to sit back and read Truck News. When I’m at home in my spare time, I like to play baseball and work on cars.
“All of the things I read in Truck News are great, but I especially like to read the information on new border legislation.
“I also like to hear if there are any changes in licensing, FAST cards, or new hours and service regulations.
“My concerns with the industry are focused mainly on how the costs of insurance and fuel continue to rise, but us drivers aren’t getting any more money.
“I love being a trucker because I love driving and being on the road. I love being able to go to different places and meet new people all the time.”
