REGINA, Sask. – Saskatchewan has received $67 million in federal funds to improve its grain roads.

The contribution is part of Canada’s Prairie Grain Roads Program (PGRP) and will go towards 48 individual cost-shared programs on Saskatchewan’s 525-kilometre grain road network.

It’s a five-year program that will provide Saskatchewan with a total of $106 million. Under the program, Manitoba will see $34 million in federal funding, Alberta will receive $32 million, and the Peace River region of B.C. will receive $2.2 million. When combined with provincial and municipal cost-sharing, the total investment on grain roads totals $334 million over a five-year period.

“Since it began in 2001, the PGRP has contributed to more than 100 construction projects, representing more than 1,000 kilometres of improvements,” says Canadian Wheat Board Minister, Ralph Goodale. “We will keep adding to that tally this year; it’s all part of an ongoing and multi-million-dollar series of federal investments.”
