GREEN BAY, Wis. – Schneider National has received an award for achieving results through learning and performance practices and interventions.

For the second year in a row, Schneider National won an Excellence in Practice Citation from the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD). The carrier is one of 31 companies worldwide to receive the honour. Schneider’s award fell under the Training Management category, thanks to the launch of its Learning Styles Match Program.

“We are especially honoured to be recognized two years in a row by the world’s foremost organization for training and development professionals,” said Don Osterberg, vice-president of safety and driver training for Schneider National. “Schneider’s driver training is known as the gold standard within its industry, and the achievement of this distinguished honour acknowledges our efforts toward continuous improvement.”

The program that garnered the award is a train-the-trainer program launched last year by Schneider. The goal was to refresh trainers’ knowledge of adult learning styles while assessing trainers’ styles. As a result, the company was able to match trainers to students with similar styles. The carrier says this allowed trainers to focus on communication and working with people’s natural learning styles, rather than trying to change them. The company has reduced the program’s drop-out rate by 8% thanks to the initiative.
