Slow down in winter weather up north

Avatar photo

Dear Editor:

Please spread the word that winter highways north of Nipigon, Ont. must be respected as much as the Rockies or the Laurentians by long-haul drivers.

There have been recent road closures due to young inexperienced drivers that drive too fast and get into trouble.

Staying on your side of the road is especially an issue with new drivers.

Cutting the corner must be verboten.

People have died during recent snowstorms and it is mostly due to these two frequent mistakes.

Thank you for allowing me to connect with some of the western and eastern drivers that do not usually experience the steep climbs and long down grades with no runaways but only embankments and rock cuts to avoid head-on collisions.

This must be a concern to all driving schools that send out graduates without this important area-specific awareness.
