OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Sprint and Truckstop.net have signed an agreement giving customers of both companies access to each other’s public wireless fidelity networks.

Wi-Fi coverage will include airports, convention centres, hotels, truck stops and travel plaza “hot spots” in the United States and Canada.

Under the agreement, secure wireless connectivity will be extended to Sprint PCS Wi-Fi Access service subscribers at more than 500 Truckstop.net wireless-enabled truck stops and travel plazas in the United States and Canada; including Rip Griffin, Petro, Love’s, Pilot, Sapp Brothers and independently owned and operated locations. It will also allow Truckstop.net service subscribers to connect to Wi-Fi zones compatible with Sprint service nationwide at many airports, convention centres, hotels, shopping malls and other public venues.

In November of 2003, Sprint and Truckstop.net signed a multimillion-dollar agreement for Sprint to provide network services, including Internet Protocol (IP) services and deployment of Wi-Fi equipment to support Truckstop.net’s provision of high-speed secure Internet access at more than 3,000 truck stops across the nation.

“With this Wi-Fi service agreement, Sprint and Truckstop.net continue to help our customers stay connected, whether they’re in an airport, at a hotel or out on the open road,” said Wes Dittmer, general manager of WLAN services at Sprint.

“We are focused on expanding our network of Sprint-compatible Wi-Fi ZONES to provide our customers a simple and easy solution to access important information at multi-megabit speeds and be productive while away from their office or home.”

“This is an obvious compliment to our ability to service mobile sales forces, RV’ers and other non-transportation oriented users that frequent truck stops and travel plazas during their time on the road,” commented Scott Moscrip, chief executive of Truckstop.net. “The other clear advantage is that we are able to work with Sprint to provide many more points of access to the transportation community following our goal of creating a ubiquitous, universal network.”

Sprint PCS Wi-Fi Access is a high-speed wireless data service that uses 802.11b technology to enable mobile professionals to replicate their desktop environments (at peak speeds up to 50 times faster than standard dial-up) while travelling and to access the Internet, email and corporate applications.

Truckstop.net’s 802.11g network provides high-speed Wi-Fi wireless Internet access in locations dedicated to the transportation industry such as truck stops, travel plazas, repair shops and terminals across America.

Customers will need a Wi-Fi Internet card or laptop embedded with Wi-Fi technology and a Sprint PCS Wi-Fi Access account. New users can establish a Sprint PCS Wi-Fi Access account and choose a service plan at www.wifi.sprintpcs.com www.wifi.sprintpcs.com.
