Stereotypes must not be tolerated

Dear editor,

Re: “Trucking needs to open its ears to closed minds” (Truck News April, page 6).

I recently graduated from the University of Lethbridge, obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce degree, and I am now working as the rental coordinator for Diamond International Trucks Ltd. in Edmonton.

The reason your article caught my attention is because the stereotype is alive and well.

This is the first time that I have ever read an article that attempted to reverse or refute the long-standing stereotypical image of a trucker.

To say I agree with the stereotype would be foolish because it is a broad generalization that can not possibly define the attitudes and actions of every single trucker.

I get upset at the lack of respect that this industry is shown and the lack of understanding in respect to its importance.
