Surge Expected to Continue in Alberta’s Oilfields
CALGARY, Alta. – Trucking companies providing oilfield services can expect the oilsands to more than double production by 2015 according to a new report released recently.
Production will be ramped up to 2.2 million barrels per day by 2015 says the report released by the National Energy Board. Production is expected to exceed one million barrels per day this year and hit the 2.2 million mark within 10 years.
An extra million barrels per day could lead Canada to be the world’s fourth largest oil producer (it is currently ninth).
About $60 billion worth of projects may be carried out by 2015 in the province’s oilfields.
Canada’s natural gas production is expected to remain flat at about the 17 billion cubic feet per day mark until about 2010, the report says.
It goes on to say future oilsands development will rely more heavily on new technologies.
